Is a mini facelift worth it?

Mini facelift procedure targets the lower third of the face, where stretching and rejuvenation is performed. However, only superficial tissue is compressed in this procedure. Therefore, you will not get an effective result. Although the lifespan of mini facelift procedure varies according to the patient's skin structure and lifestyle, it is usually 1 year. Therefore, it is not worth having a mini facelift. Because you can choose deep plane facelift, which targets deeper tissues with the same incision and is a longer-lasting procedure.

There is no need to have a surgical procedure for a procedure whose results will last less than 1 year. Again, you can choose facelift procedures that are less invasive but last longer.

Each individual is special and valuable. Have only the right and necessary procedures done on your face. For this, agree with a reliable, experienced, successful and competent plastic surgeon. Why doesn't mini facelift work?

There is no clear agreement on what a mini facelift actually means in cosmetic surgery. Only superficial muscle tissue is worked on. Therefore, there is a short recovery period, but the results do not last that long, typically less than a year. Only deep plane facelift can provide real and long lasting results for these areas.

A deep plane facelift can be performed using the same incision as a mini facelift, and the scar is usually better because there is no tension on the scar, unlike mini facelift SMAS plication procedure.

If you decide to have a deep plane facelift, it is important to make sure that your surgeon is skilled in this.

Mini facelift myths

There is a belief that ‘Mini facelift provides recovery in a short time, you can stretch your face without anyone understanding.’ This belief is not true. Because although this is a small surgery and less invasive, there are stitches in the ear area. There is some swelling and bruising on the face. The amount of this swelling and bruising varies according to the case. So mini facelift may not give what it promises in this sense.

What is mini facelift?

Mini facelift, one of facelift methods, is a surgical method applied to reduce or eliminate fine lines, wrinkles and sagging in the lower part of the face (lower third of the face). This procedure is usually preferred by patients who have started to show signs of aging in the lower part of the face and want to address the aging process early.

In mini facelift, more superficial tissues (SMAS) are usually worked on without going down to the deep layers of the face. In general, a mini facelift is a smaller type of facelift; imbrication or plication facelift.

Imbrication facelift

Superficial muscle tissues called SMAS (Superficial Musculoaponeurotic System) are compressed. In the Imbrication facelift procedure, your surgeon folds your muscles and removes excess muscles.

The superficial tissues called plication facelift SMAS are tightened by folding very carefully, but the excess parts are not cut.

Before the operation, the surgeon cleans the patient's face and marks the areas on the face where the procedure and incisions will be made. The surgeon will then administer local anaesthesia and sedation. Depending on the patient's condition, general anaesthesia may also be applied, although very rarely.

The surgery begins with a small 'S'-shaped incision around the patient's ears. The incision goes around the earlobe just past the fold and extends to the hairline. The incision is typically shorter. It does not extend to the back scalp as in a full facelift. With these incisions, the surgeon accesses the tissues under the skin.

The surgeon dissects the superficial dermal tissue from the underlying muscular layers. Patient subsequently retracts the skin to the required extent and tightens it by excising superfluous tissue. Dissection and rotation of the soft tissues may occur. Sutures are employed to secure the tissue in position. Upon completion of the procedure, the incisions are sutured. These sutures, which remain under the skin, are self-dissolving sutures that are placed in such a way that they remain hidden in the skin and therefore do not need to be removed.

After the procedure is completed, the incisions made in the skin are sutured. The diminutive size of the surface stitches minimises the likelihood of scarring.

Does the ‘weekend mini facelift’ procedure reflect reality?

To get a real result in this area, you should have a deep plane facelift treatment. If you wish, you can combine this treatment with other procedures on the upper part of your face. This way you can see a real and significant change.

What are the alternative treatment methods to mini facelift?

Dr. Berat Cigdem have 3 main goals that we need to develop at the same time in facial rejuvenation procedures. These are:

  1. Sagging
  2. Volume loss
  3. Skin quality

Accordingly, we do not recommend mini facelift surgery to our patients. Instead, we only recommend and perform the necessary procedures in line with the needs of our patient. For example, facelift procedures in Antalya, Turkey can be done either Endoscopic / deep plane facelift depending on the anatomy of the patient.
